SOARS schools only offer full day kindergarten. SOAR schools follow DPS tuition guidelines. Tuition is based on income, size of family, frequency of pay and whether or not child is a resident of Denver County. Tuition tables are made available to families upon request.
SOAR schools follow the DPS calendar for the most part. There may be a few days during the year when traditional DPS schools and SOAR schools have a different schedule.
SOAR hours are Monday through Thursday 8:30 am to 4:15 pm. Friday hours are 8:30 am to 1:30 pm. Please be advised that all students must be in their classrooms and prepared to learn by 8:30 am.
Each school has partnered with a private provider to offer before and after school activities and care. SOAR@GVR works with Lil’ People. They can be contacted at 303-574-9090. SOAR@Oakland works with Summer Scholars and they can be reached at 303-355-0290. If you are interested in before and after school care, you will need to apply with the program after school enrollment is complete.
SOAR overall approach to teaching is rigorous and student-centered. We meet students’ individual needs and ensure all students make significant growth. SOAR schools devote significant time every day to reading, writing, and math instruction. Additionally, every day SOAR students engage in art, science or social studies, and physical activity.
Students are required to wear the SOAR uniform tops that are available for purchase through a SOAR approved vendor. Students are allowed to wear jeans, sweatpants, or shorts (skirts are allowed if shorts or leggings are worn underneath). We highly encouraged that all children wear sneakers, as they will be physically active throughout the day.
Because research has shown direct connections between nutrition and health as well as nutrition and learning, SOAR works to ensure that students eat healthy foods while at school - SOAR schools serve plant-based meals; students have two snacks each day that must be a whole fruit or whole vegetable; no desserts (i.e., candy, cake, cookies, pudding or jello) for any occasion including school meals, snacks, celebrations or parties are allowed.
The mission of all SOAR Schools is to ensure the success of students of all backgrounds and ability levels by providing them with access to rigorous academic instruction and expanded opportunities. SOAR empowers children to make informed, deliberate decisions so they may lead socially responsible, productive lives.
