All SOAR students will receive a bag of non-perishable food items every other Friday, starting September 12, 2025, as part of our partnership with Food for Thought Denver.

These weekend food bags are completely FREE and available to every student—no registration required!

If your family would like to opt out of receiving food bags or would like to request additional bags, please contact our School Social Worker, Megan Beltran.

Gifted and Talented Program

Gifted and Talented (G&T) programs are designed to provide advanced educational opportunities for students who demonstrate exceptional abilities or potential in areas like academics, creativity, or leadership. Families can nominate their child for G&T screening by submitting a nomination form to their school, usually during a specific window each school year. This nomination initiates the evaluation process to determine eligibility for specialized services and enrichment.

BirthdayBAG

The “Birthday Bag!” is driven in equity as SOAR believes in celebrating EVERY Child. SOAR will be providing EVERY child with a “Birthday Bag” to bring home to celebrate with your family during the month of their birthday.

This initiative is at no cost to you or your family as we hope it brings you all joy.

If your child has a birthday during the months of June or July, please note they will receive their bag in May!

home visitprogram

Our Family Teacher Home Visit program seeks to build strong and positive relationships between the family and the school. These visits are based around the question, what are your hopes and dreams for your child? Research has shown that when school staff work closely with families to achieve shared goals, we create a better chance for students to thrive in school and in their future. Studies show that this program has improved attendance, test scores, classroom behavior, cultural awareness and increased family engagement in schools.

Home visits are for everyone. We don’t select specific students and we will try our best to visit every family in each classroom that is willing to participate. A typical home visit is about 20 to 30 minutes and the classroom teacher and another staff member will meet with you at your home or a location that feels right for you (park, coffee shop, etc.). We will provide language translation support as needed and visits will be held before 7:10am or after 3:40pm.We encourage your student and other family members to join!

We are very excited about Family Teacher Home Visits. Even more so, we can’t wait to get to know you better! To set up a home visit, please contact your teacher!

We are excited to share that this year, our students will be learning about the Zones of Regulation, a framework designed to help children recognize and manage their emotions, build self-awareness, and strengthen their self-regulation skills.

The Zones of Regulation uses four color-coded zones to help students identify how they’re feeling in the moment and develop strategies to manage those feelings in healthy and productive ways:

Through age-appropriate lessons and activities, students will learn how to:

  • Identify their emotions
  • Understand how their body reacts to different feelings
  • Use tools and strategies to regulate themselves
  • Recognize that all feelings are okay—it’s how we respond to them that matters

We encourage you to talk with your child about the Zones at home and use the same language to support their emotional growth. Working together as a school and family team helps children feel safe, supported, and understood.

If you have any questions about the Zones of Regulation or would like additional resources to support your child at home, please feel free to reach out.

Thank you for partnering with us in supporting the social-emotional learning of all our students!
